Making these adorable mugs is as easy as printing, cutting, painting and waiting! First, collect some coffee mugs or tea cups. Then print the provided templates and cut them out. Trace the animal shapes onto contact paper and cut out with a craft knife. You want to be sure to use a craft knife and not scissors, because you’re using the entire sheet of paper and not the animal shape that you cut out.
Throw away the animal shape that you have cut out (or keep for other purposes later on!). Now you are left with a sheet of contact paper that has an animal shape cut out of it. Remove the paper backing and place the contact paper onto the center of a clean coffee mug or tea cup. Then use a soft brush to fill in the outline with dishwasher-safe PermEnamel paint in any color that you choose (this can be found at any crafting stores in a variety of colors).
Let the cups set for a few minutes before carefully removing the contact paper from the cups. If there are any mess-ups, use a wet cotton swab to clean them up and straighten out your edges, then let the cups cure for 10 days before washing or using them.
Here are a few animal stencils to get you started, but feel free to find your own online and use them to create the perfect mug for you or your friends/family members! You can find character silhouettes from T.V. shows, band logos, or anything else you can think up.
